While the cats away the gold bugs will PLAY!

by admin on Feb.10, 2011, under General

The Gold Bug club is happening at The Boogaloo in London tonight. It will be hosted by my sister Laura. If you see her wish her a happy birthday from me!

Gold Bug Club is taking off now, the last one Jan 13th was a full house. We had this great band on the bill ‘Hey Tourists!’ they’ve recently been touring with Babyshambles and have Drew McConnell on upright bass. They’re a Liverpool duo with John on guitar and Cheryl on vocals, well worth checking out

Thanks to everyone who comes out to support the night and all the musicians who play, you keep the show rollin!

Postcard from Venice CA

by admin on Feb.10, 2011, under General

Hello from Los Angeles! Been out here for over a week. Stayed the first few nights down by Venice beach in a place called Cadillac Hotel. Great spot, never seen the sun before in February. Caught Jim Morrison and the Doors being played on radio set down by the beach which was cool this is his spot! Went off to find the mural they have for him. He’s still the idol round these parts.

Took my guitar down to the beach, and made a few friends. Spent most nights in this joint The Venice Ale House, great fish tacos and a great pint too called Longboard from Hawaii.

Now staying at a friends apartment near Abbot Kinney. Glorious garden out the back, I’ve been writing a few new songs out there, one which seems to be standing out, might play it at Hotel Cafe on the 14th.

Went to a Regina Spector screening of her concert DVD ‘Live in London’ a few nights ago. Fancy screening room at The Soho house in Hollywood. Regina’s special. Never really listened to her properly before- I’m a convert. You should check it I think it’s out in the shops.

Soaking it all up, feeling creative, excited to be playing some gigs out here, loving the sun!

Gig 16th December cancelled

by admin on Dec.10, 2010, under General

Gig at The boogaloo 16th December has been cancelled I’m not playing it. There maybe some gigs next year but doubtful if I’ll be playing any in London, no desire to at all at the minute.

Thanks to everyone who was at The Boogaloo Nov 11th we packed the place out and put on the kind of show that’s rarely seen in a small London club. James Walbourne and his band the Northern Heights Skiffle squad were fuckin brilliant, we had a boogie woogie piano player who busted tunes like Amos Milburn and had the place swingin… surprise of the night was a cross-dressing burlesque performance from miss apple tart and her friend Charlese Chaplin, didn’t expect her to be such a show stopper- lots of fun. I played a set to about 50 friends who came out to see me and enjoyed the whole night lots of love to everyone of you. You made the vibe.

But still not enough for the Boogaloo they wanna lump my night together with another open mic ’singer-songwriter’ night. Truly I’ve sat through too many of these nights, one laborious singer songwriter after another, and so rare you come across one who can write a tune. Meanwhile your left looking round the room at your mates who are looking bored and depressed and mouthing ‘When are you on? How much longer??’

So I’m asked to pull in the same numbers on the 16th but this time play 2 or 3 songs. It doesn’t make sense, it’s not gonna work, it’s not entertainment.

I’m planing a trip round Ireland to chill out at the start of next year, so hopefully gigs in Dublin. I’ll be calling in to Belfast, Co Mayo and Kerry maybe Claire so possibly gigs there and anywhere else that will have me along the way.

There maybe an opportunity to play some gigs in Paris at the end of March which is cool. Friends have invited me out to L.A and I might take them up on this in April time and possibly pass by New York.

So not all bah humbug, and I aint quite snuffed out just yet

Merry Christmas xxxx

The night is still ahead

by admin on Aug.20, 2010, under General

Gold bug nights at The Boogaloo keep getting better and better. Andrew or Roo Panes opened the evening. I didn’t know it was his first gig ever until he’d told me afterwards. I’d met him the week before at a house party i’d played for a friend. He sung a few songs, I thought he was pretty good and invited him down The Boogaloo to play. Chapo Roo

Next up was Grace Banks who I saw recently at The Half Moon in Putney, look out for Grace, she got something special going on

Anto Dust and Kristian Marr were both swingin’ and bought a good crowd down too. I played a set in between them. Fun times.

The sound now at The Gallery is first rate after our initial teething problems on first night. I’m heading out there to play tonight. We got Steve Mahoney and Emily Moment playing a set, I’ll be on about 9, and the fantastic Real Fur will be playing the finale. Be the first time I seen them full band. I’ve played a few gigs with their front man Leo and he’s pretty damn cool. Lets see if they live up to there billing!
